How to Clean Jade Jewelry

This method is safe for all jade — Type A, B, or C — and for solid gold 14K and 18K settings. If your jade is set in plated metal, avoid soaking.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add 2–3 drops of mild dish or hand soap.

Dip a soft lint-free cloth or very soft toothbrush into the solution.

Gently wipe the jade surface using small circular motions. Use the toothbrush for crevices in rings or carved pieces — no heavy pressure.

Rinse under lukewarm running water. Avoid hot water — thermal shock risk.

Avoid: Ultrasonic Cleaners

Safe only for confirmed Type A (untreated) jade. Most jade may be Type B (polymer-impregnated). Ultrasonic vibrations degrade polymer fillers and can crack treated jade internally.

Avoid: Steam Cleaners

Heat and pressure can crack jade or damage gold alloys over time. Even if the stone appears undamaged, internal micro-fractures may develop.

Avoid: Chlorine & Pool Water

Chlorine bleach pits gold alloys and degrades some jade treatments over time. Remove before pool swimming. Hot tubs compound the risk with heat.

Avoid: Harsh Chemicals

Ammonia, acetone, bleach, strong jewelry cleaners. Even hairspray and perfume over time reduce surface luster. Apply cosmetics before putting on jade.

Avoid: Extreme Heat
